Processes for responsibilities –

Towards green cities

An urban planning strategy for site preparation and sustainable development in an living environment.

The struggle and confrontation between nature and mankind is omnipresent and is shaping today's appearance of the surface of the earth. Like deforestation there are too many bad examples showing how inconsiderate people are dealing with resources and landscape.

Goal for future city developments will be to use a strategy in which natural processes are taken much more into consideration and are intervening with the requirements for living. Where ever nature is there is landscape. Where ever humans live there is a site. Taken into account that nature is nearly everywhere every site is also landscape.

The preparation of a site will become an important step in developing a project. The benefits from an existing natural environment could start an process in which space for living and space for green will be in a balanced situation.

This strategy can be developed in three points. First: reuse of material. Taking the existing site conditions and materials as a basis will allow all external influences become a part of one continuous structure. Second: pre-greening sites. Every site is surrounded by other sites witch could be used as a platform for growing material. Third: planning in phases. Nature needs time to grow there for every equal structure needs to allow for continuous development and will create an living and growing environment.

cars and trees

cars and trees

A utopian city concept in Paris confronts CO2 producer with CO2 absorber.

Wherever there is a car there need to be a tree too.

One 25 m high and 100 years old common beech can balance only one cars CO2 expulsion if it drives the average of 50 km/day with an average speed of 35 km/h. So we are in a hurry to plant as much trees where the biggest amount of cars are. In the city.

With the approximately amount of 450 cars per 1000 inhabitants in Paris the need of trees will fill the complete area and turn the city into a forest. The construction of a new city will develop under this forest surface by hiding all cars and providing the trees with a maximum of light and air. Every inhabitant will get his own tree located on the city’s surface.

The Construction of the city develops as well above as below the existing street level. The underground infrastructure and some solitaire buildings will stay in place while the city is growing around them. The Exchange between bottom and top in a city is as import as the interaction between the crown and the roots of a tree. A massive core structure is flexed for best light reflexion to the lower parts. The supporting framework is translucent so nearly all spaces have incoming light from two sides. All living spaces are made of a bracing structure and can be changed after a few years.

So the city is fragmented into different areas of green. All of them are growing with different speed and become more or less denser. Over the next years the city will develop a more and more connected and heterogeneous green surface.

The city is self growing, gets denser and greener and is working like a connected ecosystem.

Dubai's escape

A scenario of the forthcoming economic catastrophe triggered by the peak of oil.

Dubai will be probably the most affected city. The effects of this crisis will contain many parts of human life. Traffic and infrastructure, Agriculture, Power supply, Politics and Society and ends with Collapse of the social systems, Decrease of the standard of living, panic...

People in Dubai have now the opportunity to escape these prognoses and start an new independent live out of the range of any metropolitan area.
You can order different kinds of containers, choose a destination point and build up a shelter. The containers are delivered by airplane and parachutes. The parachutes can be used as sun protection and as space building elements. You can live in your shelter as long as you want. Or you can work on an personal solution for the crisis without any outside influences and return when you developed a new financial market strategy. You can choose from eleven containers and combine them as you like. All containers have the opportunity to open. They have different kinds of open able elements. Some of them works as walls, ceilings, windows, doors, ladders, mirrors... So the volume of each container can increase by individual preferences up to a complete accretion with the environment. After the delivery the parachutes can be used in many different ways. They have an diameter of about 7-8 meters have a hole in the middle and made of translucent fabric material. The parachutes can be put over the containers and expand the shadow areas. By overlapping the parachutes different kinds of translucency develops. Gaps caused by the flexible material provides from an completely closed ceiling and creates all kinds of spaces in between.
